No, we aren't trying to bring you down and stop you from having a good time. Quite the contrary!  This section is for parents who like to know where it's safe to take the kids for a swim in Scotland. Not that Scotland is a more dangerous place than anywhere else. But nowhere is completely safe!  And when you are new to a place, as you are when you are touring, you might wonder, if you are the type that likes to plan (hey, that's the person this site has been created for), you might be curious to take a look and see where it's safe to swim. The Scottish EPA site may have more to offer than that, but it's worth noting that they do have at least one resource to read by curious parents on waters that can be used for recreational swimming (they used to have several). See Bathing Waters data.

Meant only for those with an interest in such things (obviously)

Every community in Scotland will be hooked up to affordable broadband by the end of 2005 following a £30m deal between the Scottish Executive and dominant UK telco BT.

As part of the deal BT - which is stumping up around half of the cash - will convert 378 exchanges giving 51,000 households and 5,400 businesses access to broadband. A further 21 exchanges in the Western Isles are being broadband-enabled via a publicly-funded wireless broadband project.
