FOOD, BEVERAGE & RESTAURANT GUIDES

Our Own List of "Must Visit" Restaurants:

  • Hamersley's Bistro is one of our premier spots and the thought of visiting Boston without visiting Hamerley's Bistro is unthinkable. Those of you who are local only need to travel to stop taking it for granted.
  • L'Espalier is a sublime fixed prix French Restaurant. Since the menu changes daily, they are unable to post more than a sample online.  This is certainly a charmer both in terms of food and the decor. Even those claiming to be sick of French food will surrender.
  • Brown Sugar Cafe offers Thai cooking. It may not be as special as the top two on our list, but phrases like "family restaurant" and "phenomenal cooking" don't usually go together and at Brown Sugar Cafe, they do. Everyone seems to give a great rating, by the way, so we're not alone.
  • Mr. Sushi at 329 Harvard Street, Brookline is just as good as Ginza without the having to face the squeezing throngs of humanity that comes along with Ginza's high Zagat rating.

  • Chocolate and Chocolate Desserts:
L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates. This is certainly a place everyone should get to once in their lives, even if the doctors have restricted your fat intake. Break out the Lipitor, and then order the hot chocolate and some tasters plate of any of their homemade chocolates. Those of you who are familiar with the very best chocolate shops in Paris and Belgium will feel right at home here. Those folks are just plain serious about chocolate but still manage to have fun. Pass the Lipitor. "Don't mind if I do!"
  • Ice Cream Mania
Some say it's all the students, while others say its all the techies. Whatever the reason, Boston (not only Cambridge) is still holding on to ice cream mania, with plenty of new ice cream cafes and ice cream bars cropping up all over the place. Everyone has their favorite place, with little consensus on who wins top honors. Here are a few of many:
